Vietnam’s mechanical component production capacity

06/01/2023

Domestic mechanical components manufacturers have quite a good capacity in many fields such as molds of mechanical components, electrical cables, plastic components, technical rubber…

The manufacturing index of the mechanical industry in 10 months of 2022 increased by 16.3%

The manufacturing index for mechanical products in Vietnam decreased by 8.4% in October 2022 compared to September 2022 but increased by 9.8% compared to October 2021, according to the General Statistics Office. The manufacturing index for this industry rose by 16.3% in the first 10 months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.

Mechanical products with high output in 10 months of 2022 are: DC motors and DC generators reaching 326.6 million units; DC motors with capacity ≤ 37.5 W reaching 313.2 million units; sewing machines for home use reached 3.9 million units; Machines and other mechanical equipment with specific functions, which have not been classified, reaching 1.46 million pieces… were produced mainly in the following provinces: Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City. Da Nang, City. Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, City. Hanoi…

When compared to the same period in 2021, the output of some mechanical products increased, including power transformers with a capacity of > 16 kVA but 500 kVA, an increase of 45.2%; rotary power transformers, an increase of 10.37%; machinery and other mechanical equipment with specific functions, not classified, an increase of 35.12%; D.C. motors and D.C. generators, an increase of 4.61%; other sewing machines, excluding book sewing machines and household Electrical transformers employing liquid dielectrics with a maximum capacity of 650 KVA, a decrease of 59.18%; DC motors with a maximum capacity of 37.5 W, a decrease of 11.41%; and domestic sewing machines, a decrease of 25.7%.

Regarding the production situation in localities, in Dong Nai province, the most manufactured products in the 10 months of 2022 are other DC motors and DC generators with 324.46 million units, an increase of 3. 92% over the same period in 2021. The followings are: Household sewing machines reached nearly 1.68 million pieces, an increase of 4.66%; machinery and other mechanical equipment with specific functions that have not yet been classified reached 14.79 thousand pieces, a decrease of 18.46%; and electric transformers using liquid dielectrics with a capacity of no more than 650 KVA reached 7.57 thousand units, a sharp decrease of 28.5% over the same period.

With 243.35 million units produced and a capacity of 37.5 W, Da Nang City accounts for 77.7% of the nation’s total output of DC motors. This figure is down 8.27% from the first 10 months of 2021.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the highest output product is a DC motor with a capacity of 37.5 W, reaching 66.5 million units, down 19.38% from the same period in 2021 (and accounting for 21.24% of the nation’s overall output); this is followed by machines and other mechanical equipment with specific functions that have not yet been classified, accounting for 35.33% of the nation’s overall output of this product, reaching 514.07 thousand pieces, down 2.95%…

Currently, 85–90% of the demand for metal parts used in the manufacture of motorcycles, 15–40% of the demand for parts used in the manufacture of automobiles (depending on the type of vehicle), 20% of the demand for synchronous equipment, 40–60% of the demand for agricultural and driving machinery, and 40% of the demand for construction machinery have been satisfied domestically. Currently, 10% of the demand for metal components for high-tech sectors is being satisfied by supply. However, practically all types of passenger cars, lorries, and passenger cars are now produced and built domestically. Motorcycle production has a localization rate of 85–95%, satisfying both domestic and export demand. Among them are some common automotive businesses including Vinfast, Thanh Cong, Thaco, and so on.

The Vietnam Association of Mechanical Enterprises (VAMI) claims that several mechanical items have recently been produced with high quality, on par with that of some other countries in the region. Currently, domestic businesses that produce mechanical components have good capacity in a variety of industries, including molds for mechanical components, electrical cables, plastic components, and technical rubber. Many businesses have bravely made investments to increase their production capacity while concentrating on creating quality product lines, supporting foreign direct investment (FDI) businesses, and emphasizing the export of mechanical goods.

Because mechanical items are so widely used and useful in daily life, assuring their quality is an urgent necessity. A company’s reputation will be improved by the production of beautiful, precisely processed goods of high quality. It is encouraging to see Vietnamese businesses continue to make strides in their efforts to win over challenging clients abroad.
