Building pillars to promote AI application

30/06/2023

In Vietnam, manufacturing, retail services, and transportation will be industries with great potential and opportunities for artificial intelligence (AI). However, to promote the deployment of AI applications in the coming time, Vietnam needs to focus on several pillars, especially human resources, data, computing infrastructure, and ethical regulatory institutions. Virtue for a Safe AI…

AI đang mở ra nhiều cơ hội tiềm năng ứng dụng cho ngành sản xuất
Artificial intelligence has brought many potential application opportunities to the manufacturing industry

Experts said that AI is the most important platform technology leading the Digital transformation of industries, industries, organizations and enterprises. According to PriceWaterhouse Coopers’ prediction, artificial intelligence will contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. At the same time, artificial intelligence will create new industries and job opportunities. The development of artificial intelligence has been recognized as a country demonstrating its comprehensive strength through its ability to implement innovation and creativity.

The key to optimizing business operations

At the seminar on “Promoting the Application and Development of Artificial Intelligence in the Process of Industrialization and Modernization”, the Central Economic Commission, in collaboration with various ministries, held within the framework of the annual Industry 4.0 high-level forum, In recent years, artificial intelligence technology has developed rapidly in Vietnam, becoming more and more in-depth and expanding in many fields.

For the first time, Vietnam regards the digital technology industry of giving priority to the development of artificial intelligence, Big data, blockchain, cloud computing, Internet of Things, telecommunications electronic equipment, and semiconductor chip design and manufacturing as one of the six platform industries.

Ông Bùi Thế Duy, Thứ trưởng Bộ Khoa học và Công nghệ
Mr. Bui The Duy, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology

“Vietnam has had access to technology trends quite early and quickly. The guidelines and policies have been quick and caught up with the trend. However, with the rapid development of technology, Vietnam’s deployment speed is still slower than the world’s, especially in the field of AI”

Mr. Thieu Phuong Nam, General Director of Qualcomm Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, affirmed that AI is the fastest growing segment in the technology field, with a speed of 3 times that of other technology industries. Especially with the launch of ChatGPT, the application of AI development is much faster.

In Vietnam, Mr. Nam said AI, and ChatGPT will be applied in many industries, but three industries have the potential and will bring the greatest effect.

Firstly, it is the manufacturing industry that is tending to move into Vietnam, including the technology sector. AI applications with IoT technology, and well-connected platforms such as 5G, and Wifi 7 will be used a lot in smart factories, in which devices such as robots, XR, and VR can help the transportation process. Operate factories more efficiently, detect product defects, and issue warranty recommendations for equipment maintenance early…

Secondly, the retail industry uses artificial intelligence to change customers’ experiences in payment and analysis of customer behavior.

The third is the field of urban traffic management, which uses AI cameras to improve efficiency, especially in the construction of intelligent cities and the development of autonomous vehicle.

Nguyen Anh Tu, a software engineer at Noventiq Vietnam, sees artificial intelligence as the key to optimizing enterprise operations. He stated that the recent emergence of ChatGPT and OpenAI technologies is because they bring value and help companies optimize in multiple areas such as customer service and digital platforms.

4 IMPORTANT Pillars of AI APPLICATION

With the introduction of ChatGPT, artificial intelligence technology in the world has made great progress. This system combines image and video processing systems in Big data and artificial intelligence Generative model. Vietnam also entered the technological trend early on. Policy makers quickly caught up with new technological trends. The implementation process has achieved specific results from technology companies such as FPT, VNPT, Viettel, and Vingroup.

Despite achieving positive initial results in the development of artificial intelligence applications, Vietnam also faces many difficulties and challenges, especially in terms of limited human resources. In addition, there are many difficult data issues that require connecting, sharing communication, and creating an open database for scientists, businesses, and communities to develop.

Ông Dương Duy Hưng, Trợ lý Trưởng Ban Kinh tế Trung ương
Mr. Duong Duy Hung, Assistant Head of the Central Economic Commission

“Vietnam is facing many difficulties and challenges that need to be overcome. That is, it is necessary to continue to accelerate the process of building and connecting data infrastructure and computing; training and developing high-quality and highly qualified human resources; perfecting institutions and policies; mobilizing and attracting diverse resources to AI development…”.

According to Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy, Vietnam’s AI deployment speed is still slower than the world’s. Mr. Duy said that to deploy AI, it is necessary to accelerate the construction of a series of pillars.

Firstly, as a pillar of human resources, this issue now includes the participation of artificial intelligence expert teams, as well as the strong participation of universities and technology enterprises.

Secondly, it is necessary to establish a high-performance computing infrastructure, which is still in a discrete state and does not have a large computing center.

Thirdly, artificial intelligence requires clean data and must be ‘labeled’, but in Vietnam, this issue is very limited and not yet ready.

Fourthly, the institutional and regulatory pillars and ethics of artificial intelligence applications. ChatGPT, video processing, image generation, and deep forgery systems are raising many issues regarding the regulatory use and construction of artificial intelligence systems…

Therefore, according to Deputy Minister Bùi Thế Duy, it is necessary to prepare capabilities, manpower, and computing infrastructure; Especially, one of the prerequisites for applying artificial intelligence and optimizing data analysis models is to ensure data quality.

Recognizing the role of artificial intelligence and data in driving national digital transformation, Mr. Nguyen Quang Ngoc, Business Manager of the Government Customer Group at Viettel Cyberspace Center, stated that digital transformation has four stages, including digitization and data management (which must be clean and streamlined), Analyze data and ultimately create new value.
