Application of Infineon semiconductor components in automobile manufacturing15/01/2023
Infineon semiconductor components include sensors, and microcontrollers… to help control fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Automotive semiconductor solutions from Infineon Technologies AG are a world leader in terms of improving energy efficiency and cutting CO2 emissions. The new product and technology portfolio from Infineon supports a variety of designs, from discrete components to individual chips.
Infineon’s electronic chipsets include sensors, microcontrollers, gate drivers, and power semiconductors that reduce operating costs. Infineon’s semiconductor portfolio covers electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and rechargeable hybrid electric vehicles (xEVs), applications for key components such as inverters for electric motors, battery management systems, and charging systems on vehicles (OBC).
Speed up car charging
The high-voltage battery charging system in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or electric (EV) vehicles connected directly from the grid while the vehicle is parked with a charging station/post helps to accelerate charging. Normally, the current from the grid to the battery is unidirectional, but there are cases where it is mandatory to be bidirectional (connecting the battery to an external load or the battery from the tram to the grid.).
Battery Management System (BMS)
Due to their chemical nature, the battery cell is very sensitive to the accuracy of discharge/charge current, voltage, and temperature parameters, so batteries need special monitoring and control capabilities. This is the role of the BMS. The BMS monitors and maintains the balance of each battery cell.
BMS with a sensor system can measure temperature, pressure, current, and voltage, measure charging capacity, and monitor many other indicators. Based on these parameters, the system calculates the state of charge (SoC), the health status of the battery (SoH), and precise consumption to predict energy demand.
Sensor-mounted BMS accurately measures many important metrics.
In addition, the main function of the BMS is to protect the battery from overload by reducing or disconnecting the battery.
Boost engine performance
The main inverter (also known as traction inverter), controls the electric motor and converts direct current (DC) power into alternating current (AC) power so that the motor can work. The inverter can change the rotational speed of the motor by adjusting the frequency of the AC power supply.
Infineon’s inverters match the design and motor power requirements of electric vehicle manufacturers.
In addition, Infineon has a wide range of discrete semiconductor products and solutions that optimize costs from materials, meet common automotive industry standards, and support a wide range of engines, generators, and performance classes. . These designs aim to increase efficiency while minimizing the size and weight of the inverter.
