More Than 5,000 Billion Vnd Invested In Road Construction In Three Mountainous Provinces
10/02/2022The traffic connection project in the mountainous provinces has a total investment of more than 5,330 billion VND, building two 200 km long roads in the three provinces of Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Yen Bai.
On December 27, the Ministry of Transport and People’s Committee of Lai Chau province held the ground-breaking ceremony of a traffic connection project in the northern mountainous province. The 18 km construction and installation package in Lai Chau province was first implemented, the road surface is 8 m wide, the asphalt concrete structure is worth 285 billion VND.
The project was invested in ODA loans funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Australian Government and counterpart funds from the Vietnamese Government. The Ministry of Transport is the investor, the Project Management Board 2 is the investor’s representative, implemented for 3 years.

The project includes two parts of the road: The first route connects Lai Chau province with the Hanoi – Lao Cai expressway, starting at the IC16 intersection of the Noi Bai – Lao Cai highway, in Van Ban district, Lao Cai province; endpoint at hospital junction, Lai Chau city, Lai Chau province. This route is 147 km long, measuring grade 3 mountainous roads, with 9 newly constructed bridges.
Route 1 was expanded and improved on the old route by provincial road 136, national highway 32, and national highway 279, which is a degraded grade 5 mountainous road. When the project is completed, the transportation time between Lai Chau and Hanoi will be shortened to only 4.5-5 hours, compared to 6-7 hours today. No need to travel vehicles on Highway 4D in the cities of Lao Cai and Sa Pa as before.

The second route connects Nghia Lo (Yen Bai province) with Hanoi – Lao Cai highway, the first point is at IC14 intersection of Noi Bai – Lao Cai highway, in Van Yen district, Yen Bai province. The end point of the project intersects Highway 32 in Lien Son town, Van Chan district, Yen Bai province. The route is 53 km long, has grade 4 structure in mountainous areas, with 3 newly constructed bridges, extended to degraded provincial road 175.
Once completed, the route will help shorten the time for vehicles to travel between Nghia Lo (Yen Bai) and Hanoi from the current 4.5 hours to 3 hours.
According to Mr. Tran Tien Dung, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lai Chau province, this is one of the important transport projects to expand trade between the mountainous provinces, gradually erase the gap between the mountainous and low-lying areas, and strengthen the relationship between mountainous areas. economic zones, thus reducing transportation costs, minimizing traffic congestion and accidents, and promoting socio-economic development.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh asked the Ministry of Transport and Project Management Board 2 to strictly manage quality, progress, investment capital, and ensure construction safety throughout the construction process.
